In an effort to get the word out about a modern day Holocaust  that's happing right here in America, myself along with about 20 others joined together in Arizona State University to give away thousands of FREE 180 DVDs. The modern day holocaust is the murdering of babies, which we call abortion.  The "180" movie has received more than 1,000,000 views on YouTube in just the few short weeks it's been up. We handed out a DVD that contains the award winning documentary produced by Ray Comfort of Living Waters Publications.

Project 180 - Team 18
We met in the parking lot around 9:30 to stuff our backpacks, suitcases, roller cases, and hands with as many of the DVDs as we could.  As we were praying for the days event, a car honked at us because we were blocking their spot. (Fair enough) We noticed, though, that the car stated that the driver was "Pro-Choice" and that they vote.  Of course we made sure that we left a DVD on that car.

Most people were pretty receptive and willing to take a Free DVD.  Even those people that didn't take a DVD from me, would sometimes take one from one of the other volunteers.  When people would ask what they were, I would sometimes answer by telling them it was a "DVD."

Why am I so passionate about handing out Anti-Baby-Murdering DVDs?  That should be obvious.  In addition to spreading the message about abortion, and how it's wrong -- the DVD also shares with people the ultimate 180 they need to do, Repentance.  It shares with them that they are not good people according to God's standards (found in the 10 Commandments) and that if God judged them, they'd clearly be guilty and end up in hell.  It also shares with them that God is not willing that any would perish but that people would come to a knowledge of the truth and trust in Jesus Christ.  This DVD is great!  I pray that of the thousands of students, teachers, and others visiting the campus that they would watch the movie and that God would use it to change their heart about abortion and sin.

If you haven't seen the "180" Movie, you can watch it below and join the hundreds of thousands who have:

5 Lies In "Christianity"

10/25/2011

Lie #1:  Everybody Needs Jesus...
You may have heard it said before that everybody needs Jesus Christ.  I've even heard people say "if they have life in them, they need Jesus."  That's just not true.  The only people that need Jesus are the ones that don't want to go to hell.  This is true, if someone wants to go to heaven, then they'll need to 'go through' Jesus.  But there's another way to get to heaven... keep reading.

Lie #2: Jesus is the only way to heaven...
Have you heard this before?  Jesus is the only way to heaven?  That's actually not the case... there's another way.  No, I am not saying that all roads lead to heaven... because that is not true.  But, there is one way outside of Jesus.  It's quite simple really - to be perfect.  The only reason someone would need Jesus as their savior is if they were in danger; and the only reason a person would be in danger is if they violated God's Law. So let's take a brief look at God's Law (The 10 Commandments) to see if you've violated it. The 9th commandment is "You shall not lie." The 8th commandment is "You shall not steal." The 7th commandment is "you shall not commit adultery" - safe on that one?  Well Jesus clarified (magnified) the meaning of this commandment by telling us that if you even look with lust, you're committing adultery in your heart (see Matthew 5:27).  The 5th commandment is to "honor your father and mother."  Have you always done that?  The 3d commandment is "you shall not use God's name in vein" (or mis-using His name).

If you're honest with your answers to the above questions (ever told a lie, etc.), you're likely a lying thief, and a blasphemous adulterer-at-heart who has dishonored their parents.  So, those are just a few of God's Laws, which you've violated; you're in big trouble.  When you die, you'll face God on Judgment day.  You'll be guilty before a Just and Holy God.  Do you think he'll send you to Heaven or Hell? Most people say heaven, because they think God is Good and therefor will forgive them.  Sadly, the one thing their betting on to go to heaven, God's Goodness, will be the thing that sends them to hell.  Because God is Good, he must punish sin.  What would we call a Judge that turned a blind eye to the law?  Corrupt.  And God is not corrupt, he's good, and therefor, he's just. So if God gives you what you deserve, can you see you'd wind up in Hell.  I don't want that, you don't want that, and neither does God.  Read the next 'lie' for good news.

Lie #3: Sinners go to Hell!
If you've ever heard someone say that "All sinners go to hell!" they might not have been lying, but they were misinformed. If it were the case that all sinners go to hell, everybody would go to hell. Don't you see that everybody is a sinner (Romans 3:23); sin is breaking God's Law (1 John 3:4). At this point, you might be realizing that we've gone in a circle.  Can you see now why everybody 'needs Jesus'. Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay the fine for your sins.  God gave you a conscience ('con' means with, and 'science' means knowledge) and you went against it.  When you were lying and stealing, you knew it was wrong. You broke the law, and Jesus paid your fine.  See, you wont go to heaven because you're not a sinner, but because you are a sinner who's been saved by God's grace.  Now the question is... what must you do to be saved? Say a prayer?  See the next lie.

Lie #4: Accepting Jesus into your heart* will save you from Hell!
So you understand that you're going to be in big trouble on Judgment Day.  What must you do now?  Should you say a prayer to be saved?  Accept Jesus into your heart?  Nope, that wont help you. First of all, you don't need to accept Jesus, He needs to accept you. In other words, you don't need to give the Creator of the world permission to enter your heart, but rather God commands "all men everywhere to repent, for He appointed a day in which the world will be judged in righteousness" (See Acts 17:30).  Next question might be "what is Repent?".  Repentance is, in my opinion, best simply defined by the phrase "Confess and forsake."  It means we must confess our sins to God (not man);apologize, and then forsake (abandon) them.  Remember, Sin is breaking of God's law, so for help confessing your sins, look at his Law in Exodus 20 in the bible.  Also, ask God to remind you of the sins of your youth... this is one prayer that typically gets answered (at least for me) quite promptly. But back to the question; How can you be saved. Well, Jesus said "unless a man is born again, he will not see the kingdom of heaven" (See John 3:3).  So you must be born again. Born again, is not something that you do, but rather a result of accepting a Gift of God.  If you're still alive, then God is patiently waiting for you to repent; Turn from your sins, and put your faith / trust in Jesus Christ.  If you'll repent and trust Jesus, you will be born again by the Holy Spirit.  God will give you a new heart with new desires, you'll become a new creature.  The old (sinful) things you once loved, you'll hate and the righteous things you once despised you'll love.  You'll hunger for God's word, and it'll make sense.  Jesus Christ will be precious to you.  You'll have a deep concern for the salvation of the lost, and God will grow you in holiness.

Lie #5: The Christian life is 'better' ...
Once you become a Christian, your life may not be 'better' than non-Christians... but you're after life will be infinitely better.  There are (at least) four things that you're promised as a Christian; Persecution (you'll be hated because you're a Christian), trials & tribulation (not fun), temptation (you'll be tempted to Sin against God), and ... the good part... everlasting life (as opposed to everlasting Death and suffering). We deserve to go to hell, but God is so kind and merciful that He allows us to Repent and gave us the free gift of Salvation through Jesus Christ.  If you're not a Christian, I am not any better than you, but I'm eternally 'better off'.  If you are not born again, please get right with God today.  There is nothing more important that your eternal salvation.  Repent (confess and forsake your sins), and put your trust in Jesus Christ for your salvation. Then read your bible everyday and obey what you read.  Click here to read "Save Yourself Some Pain": 10 steps for new and growing Christians.

Facebook Conversation: Many Ways to God

10/20/2011

Today I had the privilege of having a good conversation on Facebook with a friend.  It started by a comment that they posted, that caught my attention. Here is that conversation:

My friend "Liked" this comment made by someone else: This universe, which is the same for all, has not been made by any god or man, but it always has been, is, and will be an ever-living fire, kindling itself by regular measures and going out by regular measures.

Me: Uni, Verse - a single, spoken sentence: In the beginning, God created the heavens and earth. The universe was created by God, not man.

Friend: Everyone is open to their opinion :). I have my opinion. You have yours and I'm sure so many others. I personally love the quote. But I respect everyones opinions too

Me: Oh... I thought you were involved in a Church that talked about God the Creator, and Jesus and the Holy Spirit... maybe I missed something. You are correct, we all have our own opinions -- for now. (I said this because I had recently attended a baby baptism ceremony at their church… please don't get side tracked on that point… I'm well aware that an infant baptism is unbiblical)

Friend: No. I am not involved or ever was. My god is soccer. That's my sundays and my religion lol.

Me: Oh. Gotcha. (Not wanting to "cram" my religion down his throat)

Friend's Wife: [I'm] involved sometimes. I think it's cause I went to Catholic school and was enforced, plus the nuns like me... but yes, [My Husband] is the last person to be preached about God lol (TRUST ME) I'm pretty open minded to all religions though.

Me (to the wife): I will pray for you and [your husband] that you both understand that Jesus Christ is the only one that can forgive your sins: lying, stealing, blasphemy, fornication, etc. -- it's not an issue of Religion.

Friend's Wife: Brandt, saying that is like forcing somebody to believe what you believe in. Whether we like it or not, Jesus IS a part of ANY religion. He is mentioned in every religious books. Also, I believe that hypocrisy, gambling (which falls under stealing- just like pornography falls under adultery) are sins as well. When you say that Jesus Christ is the only one that can forgive sins, you are basically telling everyone else of other faith that there is no salvation for them. Christianity teaches tolerance, right? I think we need to be tolerable to each other's opinions and beliefs. I think your faith and beliefs are wonderful and I know that you preach to others about Christianity. However, I don't think telling people straight up that they won't be forgiven because they are not Christians or believe in Jesus is the way to do it. I know you meant well in your previous comment, I however, take it into offense. I don't think either of us is God and we should keep deep religious issues within ourselves or Pastors. By saying you will be praying for us, you are basically bashing my husband and I that we are sinful people. Well.. we are human. We sin. I try to be fair and be nice to everyone, but we all have our downfall- but that's also when we get back up.

Me (to Friend's Wife): Your issue is with Jesus, not me. Jesus is the one that stated that He is the only way to God. (Jesus said in John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me") -- God tells us in Acts 4:12 "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" Jesus stated in John 3:3 "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." - John 3:36 tells us "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

When I say that Jesus Christ is the only one that forgives sins, I mean just that. I am saying that everyone, regardless of their religion, needs to understand that sin is breaking God's law and unless they repent and trust in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins, then they will get justice and be sent to hell when they die. God is not willing that any would parish , but rather that all would repent and come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ. It's appointed once for man to die... and after this comes the judgment. (Hebrews 9:27) -- And "[God] commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness. (Acts 17:30,31) -- The issue isn't one of religion, it's one of righteousness. I am a sinful person. I am going to heaven because I have been made righteous by repentance and trusting in Christ. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17).

There is one way to God, Jesus Christ, but it's available to all. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. That's one of the most well known verses in the Bible. See what it's saying: Those who believe / trust in Jesus Christ will have everlasting life… those who don't, will perish.

By saying I'll pray for you, I am not stating that you are sinful people! I like you guys. I am a sinful person... sin is breaking God's law, so we are all sinful people. By saying I'll pray for you guys, I mean that I will PRAY for you guys. I am not any better than you guys, I know that.

-- and for the record: Gambling is nothing like stealing. That doesn't even make any sense... unless you're talking about what the Casino does to the gamblers. (But even that's not true because the gamblers choose to play, and loose). For some, gambling is a form of worship -- in that case, indeed it's a sin. But if it's just a controlled pastime, like baseball, soccer, skiing, or golfing (you know, a fun hobby) - then it's not a sin.

-- End of Conversation (at time of Blog) --

The point of posting this is two fold: 1 To share with Christians the use of the law in sharing the Gospel.  You'll notice I didn't try to convince this friend and his wife that they needed to come to ask Jesus in to their hearts because He would give them love, joy and everlasting peace.  I didn't tell them that "Know Jesus or No Peace" -- I didn't tell them that God has a wonderful plan for their lives and if they would just accept him, then they'll never regret it.  NO - I used the law of God, the 10 Commandments, to help them see that they are not good people and they are sinners in need of forgiveness. Out of love I shared with them that there is ONLY ONE WAY to have your sins forgiven and enter heaven, and it's through Jesus Christ.

The second reason I posted this is for my Christian friends to be praying for this man and his wife. If you have any questions or comments feel free to e-mail me, comment on this link, or send me a message on Facebook.

The Story of Leroy

10/20/2011

Last Sunday night I was in the mood for something sweet. I decided to go to the store to get some brownies. On my way in I saw a man who looked like a bum, he wasn't even wearing a shirt. He had a tattoo of a naked woman on his chest and he was wearing a gold cross. He approached me and asked if I could "Spare some change". I told him that I didn't carry change, but that I would give him five dollars if he would promise me that he wouldn't by drugs or beer with it. He promised, so I gave him the money, and off I went. I told him that I gave him the money because God told me it's good to give to those that beg, and again, he said thank you. I asked him what his name was and told him mine. He said his name was Leroy. I saw a group of guys approaching Leroy, so I said good-bye, went into the store.

I found my brownies, and proceeded to the checkout line. While standing in the check out line, I could hear the man talking, rather yelling, with the group of guys outside. I could hear that these men were calling this man a homeless fool and swearing at him. I heard Leroy shout, "Don't spit on me!" I placed my brownies on the checkout and began to walk outside to see what was going on. As I was about 20 feet from the door, I heard Leroy scream at the top of his lungs, then again.

I began to run out the door but suddenly Leroy was running inside the store, we met just inside the entrance. Leroy had blood all over his face and hands. I could see that he had been stabbed twice, once in the stomach, and in the chest. I yelled at the store clerk to call the police.

Leroy was spilling out blood all over the place. I caught him as he fell to the ground, and now had his blood all over my hands. I didn't know what to do, this guy was going to be dead in 3 minutes! The cops wouldn't make it in time.

He looked up at me and mumbled, "Brandt... You mentioned... God... You said you knew him... please, tell me - I'm about to die - how can I get into heaven." Wow, what an opportunity, I love to tell people about God, so I said this to him.

Leroy, if you want to go to heaven, you've got to come check out my church - it's awesome, the pastor is hilarious, and the band is great. They give away free coffee and worship service isn't too long. Plus, after church we all go out and see a movie.

Leroy looked a bit puzzled, he said "Brandt... I'm dying! I don't think I'll be able to come to your church..."

Ahh, that makes sense... I didn't think about that. "Fear not," I thought to myself, I know how to share the love of God, I've heard my pastor many times, I can do this!" So I said to Leroy "Leroy, do you ever feel like you've got a God shaped whole in your heart? Do you ever feel like things aren't going that well for you... like you'd like more money, or success, or better relationships in your life? Do you feel like your job isn't fulfilling you, or that you are lonely and need a buddy?" He didn't respond, so I just continued, I knew how to tell someone about the love of Jesus, because I heard it at church... "Leroy" I said, "Jesus loves you, and he has a wonderful plan for your life! Don't you know that God is your friend and he wants you to go to heaven! All you have to do is accept Jesus into your heart. Just say this prayer "God I want to accept Jesus into my heart"

Leroy had lost a lot of blood, it was all over the floor and running down his chest, he was about to leave time, and go off into eternity. I saw that he couldn't speak, so I just said to him "Leroy, I'll just ask you a question, and with your last ounce of strength, nod your head if you agree" Do you want to accept Jesus into your heart?" He nodded his head up and down once, and then it feel to the ground, and he died.

End of Story

Did I give Leroy the biblical gospel? Is that all it takes to go to heaven is just to say a little prayer that is about accepting Jesus into your life? Did I do the right thing in the above story? the answer to all of those questions is NO. What would you do if someone only had three minutes to live? What about 5 minutes? What about a day, or a week, or a month? What about the fact that we all don't know how long we'll live, we could die at any moment. Did you know that, on average, 160,000 people die every day? Do you care? Here's a better question, do you care enough to DO anything?

I pray that you'll take the time that God has given you to study Biblical Evangelism and then do as God said and "Go in to all the world and share the gospel with every living creature." In case you're wondering, you're already in a part of the world -- so the important part for you isn't the going part… but the sharing the Gospel part. Steve Jobs, RIP?

10/5/2011

Picture
Steve Jobs 1955 - 2011
It's important that you, the reader, understand two things about me before you read this blog.  The first is that I very much liked Steve Jobs.  I am what some would call a "Mac Person" or even a "mac fanboy."  I have known that Mac computers were superior since I was probably 8 years old.  The second thing is that I believe Steve Jobs is pleased with this blog... I'll explain that more in a bit.

Today, I just found out that Steve Jobs has died at the young age of 56.  I was shocked to read it, but of course I am only surprised that it happened today - I knew that his health was bad as this was the reason for his recent step-down from being the CEO of Apple.

Steve Jobs was a brilliant business man and I'm sure he will be missed.  The question is: Will Steve Jobs RIP - rest in peace?  I want to emphatically state: I don't know. I don't know if Steve Jobs will be in Heaven or Hell.  I don't know.

What I do know is this: Regardless of where Steve Jobs is now spending his eternity, he wants you to know how you can spend eternity in Heaven, and maybe more specifically how you can avoid hell.

Please - continue reading.

Since I don't know where Steve Jobs is, and at this point, it's not something we can change. Let's ask the more important question.  Where will you be spending eternity?  Will you be in heaven or hell?  You may say "God's the judge of that!" and I agree with you 100%.  God has made it known to us why we would spend eternity in either heaven or hell.  So let's look at why someone would (should) spend eternity in Hell.

The Moral Law of God allows us to look at ourselves and our life in the way a perfect sinless, holy God does. When I saw the moral law, I'm referring to the 10 Commandments.  Do you think you've kept the 10 Commandments?  Most people say "Well, I've never killed anybody."  While that's good… let's take a look at them and see how you've done.

You shall have no other gods before Me. (Have you always loved God above all else?) You shall not make yourself an idol. (Have you made a god in your mind that you’re more comfortable with, a god to suit yourself?) You shall not take God’s name in vain. (Have you ever used God’s holy Name as a cuss word?) Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep it holy. Honor your father and mother. You shall not murder. (God considers hatred to be as murder.) You shall not commit adultery. (“Whoever looks upon a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart” — Matthew 5:27-28; this also includes sex before marriage). You shall not steal. (Have you ever stolen anything? — the value of the item is irrelevant.) You shall not lie. (Have you lied even once? Including answering these questions.) You shall not covet. (Have you ever jealously desired what belongs to others?)

The Bible says that God will punish all murderers, rapists, thieves, liars, adulterers, etc. He will even judge our words and thoughts. On Judgment Day, will you be found to be guilty or innocent of breaking His commandments?

Perhaps you think that God is good, and will therefore overlook your sins. But it is His goodness that will make sure that murderers, rapists, thieves, liars, etc. receive justice. He would be a corrupt Judge if He turned a blind eye to injustice.

Have you kept the Commandments?

The Bible says that the Law is perfect. It commands you to be perfect (Matthew 5:48). Are you perfect (in thought, word, and deed)? Will you make it to Heaven?

You may say that you are still good, but God says you’re not (see Psalm 14:2-3). So one of you is lying, and the Scriptures tell us that it is impossible for God to lie.

Remember that all liars will be cast into the Lake of Fire (Revelation 21:8). God’s Law demands justice, and the penalty for sinning against Him is death and Hell. Listen carefully, if you want to live.

God Himself made a way where His justice and His goodness could meet. We broke the Law, but He became a man to pay the fine. Jesus suffered and died on the cross to satisfy the Law. God can forgive us and grant us the gift of everlasting life!

But you may still think that you can (from now on) keep the Ten Commandments. But isn’t it true that the best of us have lied, stolen, lusted, hated, failed to love God above all else, and failed to love our neighbor as ourselves?

How can we then, live a “good” life if we have already sinned against God? At best we are reformed liars and thieves … but still Lawbreakers.

Think of it this way…

Would you sell one of your eyes for a million dollars? Would you sell both for $50 million? I’m sure you wouldn’t. Your eyes are priceless, yet they are merely the windows of your soul. What then must your life (soul) be worth?

With these thoughts in mind, what would be a fair price to pay for everlasting life? It is utterly without price. Yet, if we trust in our own goodness to enter Heaven, we are saying to God, “I should enter Heaven because I have done good - I have earned my way in.”

Imagine if you wanted to give me a brand new (very expensive) car, but I said, “I can’t take it! I feel embarrassed receiving such a gift … here’s 10 cents for it.” I’m sure you would be very insulted by such a pathetic offer of payment. Besides, if I pay for it, it is no longer a gift, it’s a purchase … it’s mine by right.

When we talk of entering Heaven by being good, by trying to keep the Ten Commandments, etc., we are tossing God 10 cents of “self-righteousness,” which is a terrible insult to Him, in the light of His sacrifice. The only thing we can do is humble ourselves, repent of our sins, and receive the gift by trusting Jesus Christ alone.

Almighty God demonstrated how much He loves you when Jesus suffered for you on the cross. If you want to trust in your own goodness, then you are saying His agonizing death on the cross was in vain.

The Bible says, “For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.” You cannot earn a gift.

When Jesus said to “believe” on Him, He was saying we should have faith in Him, in the same way you would trust a parachute to save you when you jump from a plane. You don’t merely believe in the parachute - you put it on.

Please don’t “jump” without Jesus. If you die in your sins there is no second chance. God will give you justice, and you will end up in Hell forever. Any troubles you have at present are dwarfed by the trouble you are in with your Creator. His wrath abides upon you (John 3:36).

God doesn’t want you to go to Hell. Neither do you want to go there, so confess your sins to God right now, put your trust in Jesus to save you, and you will pass from death to life.

Then read the Bible daily and obey what you read. (See John 14:21). Your obedience to God is the proof of your love. Have faith in God, He will never fail you.

The reason I say that Steve Jobs (and anyone else that has gone from life into eternity) wants you to know this is this: If Steve Jobs didn't repent from his sins towards God and trust alone in Jesus Christ for his salvation, then (because of his sins) he will spend eternity in Hell.  But (and this is what I hope for Steve Jobs, and you) if Steve Jobs understood his sinfulness (even moments before he died) and humbly repented towards God and understood that Jesus Christ suffered and died on the cross for his sins, then Steve Jobs is now in heaven with Jesus and he certainly wants you to do the same.

I know there will be a lot of people that either like Steve Jobs, or don't like Christianity, or both, that will not like this message.  Again, I want to make it clear: I don't know if Steve Jobs died today and went to heaven or hell.  What I do know is that Steve Jobs died today… and he did in fact go to one of those places and he'll be there forever.  Either way, Steve Jobs wants you to know about how your sins can be forgiven through Jesus Christ alone.
